Basque Media Touts Exhibit WebsiteA website of an exhibit on the history of Basque immigration to the United States, on display on Ellis Island in New York City from February to April 2010, hit the web earlier this month, in time for the opening of the exhibit on February 6th.
"Hidden in Plain Sight: the Basques", produced by The Basque Museum and Cultural Center of Boise, provides an insider's look into the riveting journey of thousands of Basque men, women and children and explores the language, customs, traditions and values of the Basque people as well as the lure that America held for them.
The website goes over the historical ties that existed between the Basque Country and the United States. It mentions the Basque presence in the Americas from the age of Columbus and stresses the admiration felt by John Adams, second president of the US, for the Basques' historical form of government.
The Contributors section acknowledges the financial and material support for the exhibit by the Center of Basque Studies of the University of Reno, the Basque Center Euzkaldunak from Boise, the North American Basque Organization, the Basque Government and the Basque Museum and Cultural Center.
